Microsoft Band 2 review: Getting the (fitness) band back together

The original Microsoft Band was a Swiss Army Knife of fitness functionality, packing in 10 different sensors of varying usefulness. Unfortunately, it also had all the ergonomic fortitude of a 1995 Vauxhall Vectra. However, Microsoft has tackled that criticism head on with the curvy follow-up it has christened the Microsoft Band 2. Unlike its predecessor, the 32 x 12.8mm screen is curved - meaning the band wraps round your wrist in a much more comfortable way. It’s also got a crisper, 255ppi screen - so you can see just how high your heart rate has jumped during that last set. The strap, meanwhile, is a thick plastic material that feels sturdy and is comfortable to wear.

The clasp is very tricky to do up and will take some practice The slider-style clasp means that you can adjust it slightly to fit your wrist and because it’s water-resistant you don’t need to worry about it being covered in sweat. The tech giant has added a barometer to the list of specs that already includes heart rate tracking, GPS, UV sensor, gyrometer and accelerometer to name a few. The barometer means it’ll track elevation for when you’re climbing stairs or hiking Ben Nevis. Like the earlier Microsoft Band, the sequel will measure your steps, calories and distance. It also has dedicated modes for a variety of sports such as running, biking and general workouts. You can also download specific “guided workout" routines from several fitness specialists. As with other fitness bands, the Microsoft Band 2 will track your sleep - giving you a detailed breakdown on how much light and deep sleep you achieved. Given its size, it’s not the most comfortable thing to wear at night, but there is a “smart alarm” that learns when it’s best to wake you and vibrates accordingly. You can turn this off or set a standard one if you wish. Microsoft Band 2: Usability and battery Although the Band 2 is responsible for recording your fitness, much of the grunt work is done by the Microsoft Health app. Like the band itself, the app works with Android, iOS and, obviously, Windows Phone devices. It uses Windows’ familiar tile interface and you can add or subtract tiles on the Band using the app. It also has some limited smartwatch functionality - you can see incoming texts, tweets or Facebook posts on the screen.

The Microsoft Band 2 uses a tiled interface that's familar to anyone who uses Windows If you’re not that fussed about all the bells and whistles then you can buy one of the aforementioned trackers and get a good understanding of your fitness level. But the Microsoft Band 2 is more tailored to those serious about fitness and improving their health, rather than just hitting 15,000 steps each day. Especially as it comes in at a hefty £200. It's size and design makes it a little ungainly, but the excellent software and sheer amount of features mean that it's an excellent piece of wearable technology for the 21st century fitness fanatic.

CHAN 2016: Super Eagles To Begin Preparations In December

As part of the final preparations for the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the home based Super Eagles of Nigeria will commence training in the first week of December 2015, in Abuja.The Super Eagles are drawn in Group C along-side Tunisia, Niger and Guinea for the preliminary stages. Kogi Election: APC Angry Over INEC's Decision

The All Progressives Congress has criticised the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the November 21 gubernatorial election in Kogi state inconclusive, a decision that has been rejected by its legal experts.

he APC candidate, Abubakar Audu, who is now deceased, was leading the poll before the INEC declaration, causing the party to resort to legal advice over the impasse. It was learnt that the ruling party is planning to write to the INEC on its position within the next 48 hours and the APC believed that its candidate should have been declared the winner of the poll, The Nation reports. A source close to the party’s top chiefs said the party had assembled legal luminaries who were said to have been combing the 1999 constitution as amended, the Electoral Act and Guidelines for the 2015 General Elections ahead of a presentation of the party’s position. The source said: “Our party is of the opinion that the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, erred by not declaring its candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, the winner of Saturday poll. ”We have assembled a team of senior lawyers to advise the party on the way forward. They have been meeting since some of our leaders returned from Kogi State on the way forward. READ ALSO: We’ll Not Abandon Our Candidate – APC Mourns Audu “Our preliminary findings revealed that although Kucha said there are 49,953 registered voters in 91 polling units, those actually eligible to vote with Permanent Voter Cards are actually 25,000. “We think that Kucha, being an academic, was not well-guided by the National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kogi governorship poll, Mrs. Amina Zakari, and the State Resident Electoral Commissioner.” Meanwhile, INEC said it would apply available legal provisions on the recent development of the governorship election in the state.

Kogi: APC mourns Audu , says will act within law

By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA – All Progressives Congress, APC has said that it will act within the confines of the rule of law in responding to the inconclusiveness of the Kogi State governorship election that held on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had declared the election inconclusive following the gap between cancelled votes and the wining margin and incidentally, the APC’s candidate, Prince Abubakar Auduimmediately after the election died. It is believed that Audu’s death immediately had prompted a constitutional controversy as the country’s constitution did not envisage the present circumstances. In a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Mai Mala Buni, the party said its response the matter would however be based on the constitution “On INEC’s position that the November 21, 2015 governorship poll in Kogi State was inconclusive, APC is studying the declaration of the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, based on Section M, Paragraph 4(Page 22) of INEC Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of the 2015 General Elections. “APC believes in the rule of law, strict adherence to 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act 2010(as Amended). “Our government was a product of the rule of law. We have absolute faith in the nation’s law and we will not in any manner undermine the law. Our observations and position will be within the laws of the land. “The situation in Kogi State is a test case for the rule of law and our growing democracy. APC is committed to its pledge to ensure a sustainable democracy in the country”, it said. The party also mourned the passage of Audu, describing him as a star and democrat. While commiserating with the deceased family, the party stated that it would not abandon its candidate even in death. APC also appealed to the people of the state and indeed its supporters to remain calm in the face of the ill development. “The All Progressives Congress(APC) sadly mourns the death of its governorship candidate in Kogi State, His Excellency, Prince Abubakar Audu. He was certainly one of our stars, a democrat par excellence, a development-oriented leader and a beacon for the liberation of Kogi State from its apparent decay. He was a Prince of hope, a symbol of peace and an apostle of unity and reintegration of Kogi State. “We commiserate with his family and the great people of Kogi State for having a strong belief in Abubakar Audu’s capacity to redeem the state. “The demise of Prince Abubakar Audu has no doubt created a big vacuum in Kogi State and APC but we take solace in the fact that God gives, God takes. He might have physically transited but he will forever be spiritually and politically relevant not only in Kogi State but in Nigeria. “We appeal to the people of the state to see Audu’s death as an act of God. There should be no recourse to lawlessness or vindictiveness in whatever form. The only honour will can do Prince Abubakar Audu is to remain peaceful and resolve to be undaunted in preserving the adorable ideals he lived for. Rather, the party should be united in mourning and be encouraged to effect the desired change in Kogi State through the ballot anytime, any day”, the statement said. In a similar development, the party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Mr. Timi Frank in a statement on Monday stated that the party shall explore all choices and act within the law to find alternatives to Audu. “We are exploring all known choices and alternatives to us in line with our party’s dictates and respect of the rule of law as is in conformity with laid down laws and rules of our country. “The past 24 hours has been one that gloom, pain, shock and grief best describe following the death of strongman of Kogi Politics, a dependable party man and our governorship candidate in last Saturday’s election, Prince Abubakar Audu, who was clearly headed for victory having lead with the most votes. “To say that we are shocked and dumbfounded at Audu’s death is to scratch our pains on the surface as the Kogi Prince typified what a real democrat radiates. A politician who chose to remain in opposition after losing his governorship in 2003 despite the intimidations on him but rather chose to see the nation get its deserved change in leadership”, Frank said.

Nigerian Group Vow To Deport All British Citizens In Nigeria If Britain Continue To Deport

Time ticks away for the British Government as from November 22, 2015 in ensuring all Nigerians being detained, tortured, traumatized and dehumanized in various Immigration Detention Centers all over United Kingdom and Europe are released unconditionally in 14 days, else by retaliatory way, British citizens in Nigeria would be deported, British Airlines/Products would be boycotted and there is every reason to believe that British citizens in Nigeria will be deported.

This shocking position was made by Professor Alexia Thomas, Chairman, The Commonwealth Liberation Party, TCLP, a British registered political party during a press conference held in their headquarters yesterday. In a widely circulated press statement, Alexia, a Nigeria-born, British fiery human rights activist leading the anti-deportation campaign said: “The United Kingdom Ruling Government is given up till the 7th of December, 2015, to pronounce mandate to release Nigerian citizens from Immigration Detention Centers in the UK unconditionally without compromise, or else by 9th December, 2015, they (British Government) should expect Nigerian citizens to boycott British products and produce. The Nigerian people will refuse to patronize British Airlines and Nigerian citizens will refuse to visit British Embassy or Submit Applications nor pay them any fees. “The Conservative Ruling Party is compelled to refund all Visa Fees paid by Nigerians at home and Abroad for Residence and Visitors’ Application which was declined from the year 1999 to 2015. By the 14th of December, 2015 the Conservative Ruling Party are requested to pronounce immediate release of Nigerian citizens in Detention Centers or failure will see the British Embassies in Lagos/Abuja shut down from operation to the public” Fuming, Alexia explained that “By 21st December, 2015, an ultimatum to release all Nigerian citizens in Detention Centers or face the consequence of British citizens resident in Nigeria equally deported back to United Kingdom unless those who have dual Nationalities.” Emphasizing this ultimatum, Alexia states that “The Conservative Ruling Party is given 28th of December, 2015 deadline to release names and profiles of deceased migrants’ records death since 1968 to 2015 as compelled by Law to release under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. They are required to release the names of the dead who committed suicide and those killed in the hands of UK Government Employees. They are to compile Dead Victims Dozier send to the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abuja. Four women accused of witchcraft are stripped, tied up and burned by angry mob

Horrifying footage has emerged showing four women suspected of witchcraft being tortured, stripped, tied up and burned by an angry mob in Papua New Guinea. The women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill in a village in Enga province in August. Social media posts said the women were accused of “invisibly” taking the man’s heart, and then putting it back after they were tortured. In their attackers’ eyes this would also prove their guilt as sorcerers. In the footage, the women are being prodded and threatened with machetes while being questioned by a group of men. According to the translation the women deny having done anything, and plead with their attackers. The woman begs: "My son, stop it!” says one woman, laying on the ground. “Talk out, where did you put it?” comes the reply. “Burn her with the wire.” “I’ve got nothing to do with it,” says another woman. “I am a mother with five children.” But the attackers ignore their pleas, with one saying: "Don't just hit her, burn her." It is thought at least one woman died after the ordeal but there was no confirmation of that. The video was initially shared on social media by students, who, according to one source, did it to show they approved of the torturers' actions. The Guardian was told by two PNG sources the women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill in a village in Enga province in August. In their attackers’ eyes this would also prove their guilt as sorcerers. “There’s no real way they can prove themselves innocent,” one PNG source who has been involved in rescues of victims of sorcery-related violence, told Guardian Australia. “Once they’re suspected they’re basically done for, they’ll be tortured and maybe killed as well.” It’s not police photos or anything of the crime being shared,” said the source involved in rescues of victims. “It’s actual participants who are there and actually bragging about what they’re doing. It’s kind of like a Abu Ghraib video or something.” He said he was aware of many people sharing the video on their smartphones, including high school students, and said it wasn’t out of horror but rather approval for the actions being taken against the four accused women. “There’s no logic going on in the matter … To try to talk logically, even to students, doesn’t really get you very far. They say, we have evidence and you ask what kind of evidence and they say it’s invisible evidence you can’t see it,” he said. “It’s hard to argue against that.” "The PNG Government has approved a National Action Plan against Sorcery Accusation Violence. Now it must be implemented effectively and as soon as possible by everyone concerned including police, the legal system, health, education, NGOs, community leaders and the churches." The incident is just one of numerous acts of violence or death related to accusations of sorcery. Anger is increasing among Papua New Guineans as the attackers go unpunished.
